Our Multi-Disciplinary Team
At Boost CYAC, police, child protection, healthcare professionals, mental health service providers, and Child & Youth Advocates work together as one team to support children, youth, and their families in a safe, welcoming place. By working closely together and sharing information, the team helps reduce stress, limits the need for children to repeat their story, and ensures families feel supported and cared for at every step.
Boost CYAC’s multi-disciplinary team includes Toronto Police Service, Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, and the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) Program at The Hospital for Sick Children.
Our specially trained police officers and child protection workers conduct child abuse investigations onsite. Their focus is on understanding what happened and prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of each child/youth.
A designated team of health care providers at The Hospital for Sick Children provides medical evaluations for children who have experienced physical or sexual abuse and offers consultation regarding the need and timing for a medical exam.
Collaboratively, the SCAN Program and Boost CYAC provide Brief Mental Health support to children and youth and their caregivers, immediately following a child abuse investigation.

Support During Investigations
The Child & Youth Advocacy Program is a voluntary service offered to all families involved with Boost CYAC for a child abuse investigation. Child & Youth Advocates provide immediate and ongoing support, advocacy and referral services to children, youth, and their families.
During investigations, Advocates will:
- Greet the family and familiarize them with the centre
- Introduce our police and child protection partners
- Remain available to family members to provide emotional support
- Answer questions and/or concerns, while providing information on next steps.
Following the investigation the Advocate can share information about supports available to the family through Boost CYAC and in the community. They can also help to make referrals for mental health services, court support and other services.
